How it all started
"Ever since I was a young child, making
people laugh was all I ever wanted to do..."
Pre Charlie Clown days

Roy started entertaining at a very early age. He would perform shows for
his family and friends. Looking back although he was using his props to hide
behind so to speak, he slowly managed to overcome his shyness.
As the years went by, Roy now in his teens, worked hard at his hobby which he loved (magic, juggling, clowning, balloon modelling) and decided to start putting together a children's show. But one thing that he was determined to do was to make sure that his character wasn't at all frightening to children, as he remembered the feeling that he felt when he was a shy young boy, of being afraid of a children's entertainer who was really loud and frightened him half to death at his cousin's birthday party.
So Roy created Charlie the magical Clown taking the name from Charlie a shortened version of his surname "Charles." He then tailored his act, make up, and costume to take into consideration any children who were shy or nervous just as he was as a child.
After leaving Butlins in 1988 Charlie has entertained at many prestigeous venues both in the UK and abroad, and has performed thousands of magic and clown shows at private parties, corporate events, in theatres and even performed on TV several times.
Charlie also writes comedy and is a magical adviser to a leading UK based circus.His very gentle approach to small children has worked really well over the years has seen him regularly rebooked in play schools, nurseries and pre schools
all over the south. The main reason this works so well is that he keeps his make
up to a minimum. He isn't loud and overpowering and makes sure that there
are no loud bangs or anything in the show that would frighten or upset any little ones.
